Description
Unlock the potential of one of the most coveted Alocasia hybrids on the market. The Alocasia ‘Venom’ is a high-contrast, sculptural masterpiece, and starting from a corm allows you to watch its dramatic transformation from the very beginning. Known for its “sinister” beauty, this plant is a must-have for serious collectors seeking dark, moody aesthetics.
Plant Profile
- Dramatic Foliage: As it matures, the ‘venom’ produces elongated, shield-shaped leaves that range from deep forest green to near-black.
- Striking Venation: The leaves are accented by bold, neon-green or pale silvery veins that pop against the dark surface, mimicking a reptilian or “venomous” pattern.
- Unique Morphology: Features a signature “curled tail” or fang-like tip at the end of each leaf, giving the plant its aggressive, otherworldly silhouette.
- Compact & Upright: Despite its bold look, it maintains a relatively compact and sturdy growth habit, perfect for cabinet displays.
Corm Germination Guide
Starting from a corm is a a rewarding way to grow a rare specimen. For best results:
- Preparation: Gently peel away the dark papery outer skin of the corm to reveal the green/white tissue beneath (this helps prevent rot).
- Substrate: Place the corm ‘pointy side up’ in a shallow container of damp sphagnum moss, perlite, or fluval stratum.
- Humidity: Cover the container with a clear lid or plastic wrap to maintain near 100% humidity.
- Heat & Light: Provide bright, indirect light and a heat mat if possible. Alocasia corms sprout fastest at temperatures between 22*C and 27*C.
