Description
The Crown Jewel of Variegated Alocasias.
Experience the thrill of growing a true “unicorn” plant. The Pink Variegated Black Velvet (Alocasia Reginula) is a breathtaking mutation of the classic favourite. By starting with a corm, you are investing in a genetic potential of a plant that combines moody, dark textures with soft, ethereal pink splashes.
The Visual Appeal
- Contrasting Textures: Features the iconic, stiff obsidian-coloured leaves with a plush, velvet-like “skin”.
- Pink Mutation: Unlike standard variegation, this rare form produces sectors, splashes, or mottling in shades of blush to hot pink.
- Silver Veining: The stark, white-silver veins of the Black Velvet act as a roadmap across the pink and black landscape pf the leaf.
- Compact Elegance: Known for its low-growing stout habit, making it an ideal centrepiece for rare plant cabinets.
Corm Germination Guide
Starting from a corm is a a rewarding way to grow a rare specimen. For best results:
-
- Preparation: Gently peel away the dark papery outer skin of the corm to reveal the green/white tissue beneath (this helps prevent rot).
- Substrate: Place the corm ‘pointy side up’ in a shallow container of damp sphagnum moss, perlite, or fluval stratum.
- Humidity: Cover the container with a clear lid or plastic wrap to maintain near 100% humidity.
- Heat & Light: Provide bright, indirect light and a heat mat if possible. Alocasia corms sprout fastest at temperatures between 22*C and 27*C
