Description
The Syngonium podophyllum ‘Mojito’ is the ultimate “party plant” for aroid lovers. Named after the classic cocktail, this variety is famous for its erratic, high-contrast variegation that looks like muddled mint and lime splashed across a forest-green canvas. No two leaves are ever the same, making every new unfurling leaf a surprise.
Visual Profile
* The Foliage: Classic arrowhead-shaped leaves that become more lobed as the plant matures. The base color is a vibrant light green, heavily “flecked” and mottled with dark green splotches and occasional creamy-white specks.
* The Pattern: Unlike “Albo” variegation which comes in large blocks, the Mojito features a “pixelated” or “speckled” pattern, which is generally much more stable and less prone to browning.
* Growth Habit: A versatile vining/climbing plant. It can be allowed to trail beautifully from a hanging basket or trained up a moss pole to encourage larger, more mature leaf shapes.
Key Features
* Fast Grower: One of the most rewarding variegated plants because it grows quickly, allowing you to see progress week by week.
* Highly Photogenic: The dappled texture makes it a favourite for “plantagram” and collectors who love complex patterns.
* Easy Propagation: Extremely easy to prune and propagate in water, making it a great plant for sharing with friends.
Care Summary
Light | Bright, indirect light. Bright light maintains the “Mojito” speckling; low light may cause it to fade to solid green.
Water | Moderate. Allow the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings.
Humidity | Average to High. It’s more tolerant of home humidity (40-50%) than Alocasias but loves a misting.
Soil | Well-draining. A standard potting mix with a little extra perlite works perfectly.
Toxicity | Toxic to pets. Keep away from cats and dogs.
